Short answer
Umrah from Canada costs your return flight, which you book, plus our land package for hotels, transport and support in Makkah and Madinah, the Saudi tourist visa, travel insurance and spending money. Your provincial health plan won't pay up front abroad, so insurance is a real line. The flight dates and hotel distance from the Haram move the total most.
Travel advice changes. Before you book, check the latest Government of Canada travel advice for Saudi Arabia (opens in a new tab) and make sure your travel insurance covers your trip. Checked 20/10/2026.

Put travel insurance on the sheet first
Your provincial or territorial health plan "may cover nothing or only a very small portion" of medical care abroad, the Government of Canada says, and it never pays up front. A hospital abroad may ask for cash on the spot. For Saudi Arabia, travel.gc.ca advises a policy that covers medical evacuation and hospital stays.
The current advisory matters too. Canada's advice for Saudi Arabia is "Avoid non-essential travel", with regional advisories to avoid all travel to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, to Asir, Jazan and Najran, and within 30 km of the Yemen border (updated 18/10/2026). Ask your insurer in writing whether you are covered on your dates.
If you're booking for parents over 70, declare every condition, and ask whether the policy can be extended from abroad if a flight home is cancelled. We don't sell insurance. The premium depends on age and health, so this is the one line we can't estimate for you.
The visa: online before you fly, or on arrival
Canadians need a tourist visa for Saudi Arabia, according to travel.gc.ca. You can get it online before the trip or on arrival at the airport. It allows multiple entries, is valid for one year, and allows up to 90 days a year in the country. The same page says Muslim tourists can perform Umrah with any type of visa, while Hajj needs its own visa.
Check the current fee on visa.visitsaudi.com on the day you apply; we don't quote it because it has changed over the years. With children, applying online before you fly saves a queue at Jeddah after an overnight flight. Once you have the visa, book your Umrah permit in the Nusuk app.
Canadian permanent residents on another passport follow different rules, and the official lists we found don't name Canadian PR. Our Umrah visa guide for UK, USA and Canada residents goes passport by passport.
Travel.gc.ca says there are vaccination entry requirements for Umrah, including polio, meningococcal meningitis and yellow fever, and points to Nusuk for the health rules. Which ones apply to you depends on where you have lived and travelled, so ask a travel clinic, and add the clinic fee to your budget.
We don't issue visas and can't promise one. The Saudi authorities decide. We make the hotel and transport bookings the application needs and help you through it.
Flights: where you live in Canada changes the fare

We are not TICO registered, and we don't sell flights. You buy your ticket from an airline or a Canadian travel agency, and we handle the ground. If you book through an agency, ask what your province gives you: Ontario and Quebec both regulate travel sellers. That protection is between you and the agency.
Toronto Pearson has the most choice. Its departures board lists Saudia flight SV62 to Jeddah from Terminal 3, and its arrivals list SV61 back from Jeddah. Days change by season, so search saudia.com for your dates. From Montreal and Ottawa, most routes connect in Europe, Istanbul or the Gulf. From Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver the trip is longer and you may connect twice. Avoid a connection through Riyadh's King Khalid airport while Canada's advice says to avoid all travel there.
We don't quote fares here because they change daily. A few things to weigh:
- A January or February connection through a snowy hub can be delayed. Leave a spare night in the plan rather than a tight transfer in Jeddah.
- A single short connection costs more than a long overnight wait. With children or a parent who tires easily, it is usually worth it.
- Flying into Madinah and home from Jeddah saves a long drive on your last day.
Which week you go

The dates below are from the Toronto District School Board's 2026-27 calendar. Other boards and provinces differ, so check yours.
| Window | Price effect | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Winter break, 21/12/2026 to 01/01/2027 | High | Book early; see December Umrah |
| Family Day, Monday 15/02/2027 | Medium to high | A long weekend only. It falls inside Ramadan 1448, expected to begin about 08/02/2027 |
| Last ten nights of Ramadan | Highest | Expected roughly late February to early March 2027, depending on the moon |
| March break, 15/03/2027 to 19/03/2027 | High | On an Umrah visa you must enter by 23/03/2027 |
| Quieter weeks | Lower | More hotel choice near the Haram |
For school families March break is often the only free week. TDSB's break ends on 19/03/2027, before the 23/03/2027 last entry date on Umrah visas, so a Toronto family can fit it in if the flights line up. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's 1448 dates cover Umrah visas: last issue 09/03/2027, last entry 23/03/2027. Canada's advice says Umrah can be done on any visa type, but as of 20/10/2026 we have not seen a rule on whether tourist-visa holders can still perform Umrah after 23/03/2027. If your board's break runs later, keep the booking flexible until the rule is out. See the Umrah calendar 1448 and Umrah in the school holidays.
The land package, and what moves its price
Our land package covers hotels in Makkah and Madinah, private transport from the airport, between the cities and back, ziyarat if you want it, help with the visa paperwork, and our team on the ground. Umrah services without flights explains who books what.
Inside the package, four things move the price. The metres from the hotel to the gate come first; ask for the hotel name, check the walk on a map, and in Makkah ask about slopes. Room sharing comes next, since a family of four in one room pays less each than two couples in two rooms. Then the split of nights between Makkah and Madinah, because the two cities are priced differently. Last, transport: a private car is priced per car, so it suits a family better than one traveller. For one or two people the Haramain train is an option, and its fares show only when you search your date on sar.hhr.sa.
Ask us for today's price on your dates. Your written quote states the currency and what it includes, so you can convert it to CAD on the day.
Spending money
Plan for meals outside the hotel, a Saudi SIM or eSIM, laundry on trips of 10 nights or more, and wheelchair or electric cart hire at the Haram if a parent needs one. Zamzam, dates and gifts are up to you. Many Canadian cards add a foreign transaction fee to every purchase, so a no-fee card and some SAR in cash help.
Three Canadian trips, line by line
Every family below pays for the same five lines: the flight they book, the visa, insurance, our land package and spending money.
A couple from Mississauga, 7 nights over March break, 4-star. They can look at the Saudia flight from Pearson. Their break ends before the Umrah-visa entry deadline, which keeps the plan simple.
A family of five from Calgary, 10 nights over the winter break, 4-star. They have the longest journey of the three, possibly with two connections, so we would add a rest night in Makkah before Umrah. That night costs money, and on a 10-night trip it is a real trade against an extra night in Madinah.
Parents and an adult son from Montreal, 14 nights, 5-star. A hotel next to the Haram and a private car come first in their budget, ahead of a cheaper fare with a long wait. Insurance for the parents will likely be their largest line after the flights. Our elderly parents guide has the detail.
Send us your own shape and dates, and we price the land package in writing.
If your parents live in Pakistan, they can fly from there on a full package while you fly from Canada and meet them. See gift Umrah to your parents.
How Maqam e Haram helps
Send us your flight times, the number of travellers and the children's ages. We send back a written land quote with the hotel names, metres to the gate, nights in each city, room plan and transport. Our office is in Islamabad and our own team is on the ground in Makkah and Madinah. We work with Canadian families on WhatsApp, email and phone, and plan a slower pace for parents.

Yes. Canada's travel advice says Canadians need a tourist visa, online or on arrival, and that Umrah can be done on any visa type.
Will OHIP or my provincial plan cover me in Saudi Arabia?
It may pay little or nothing, and never up front. Buy travel insurance that covers hospital stays and medical evacuation.
Can we go in March break 2027?
On an Umrah visa, only if you enter by 23/03/2027. TDSB's break is 15/03/2027 to 19/03/2027, so it fits. Tourist-visa rules after that date had not been published when we checked.
