Air, bus or car: three ways to go

Ways to travel from the UAE for Umrah
How you travelWhat to expect
By airThe quickest way: flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah reach Jeddah or Madinah in a few hours. It is the easiest choice with young children or elderly parents.
By busBus packages from UAE operators are a long road journey, often a full day or more each way, with stops. They cost less, but they are tiring for children and elders.
By carA long drive, usually split over two days. You need the right documents and Saudi insurance for your car. Parking near the Haram is limited, and at busy times cars may not be allowed into central Makkah.

We arrange the hotels and the transport inside Saudi Arabia for all three. For the bus itself, book with a licensed operator.

What we arrange, however you travel

  • Hotels in Makkah and Madinah chosen for your family
  • Transport from the airport, between Makkah and Madinah, and back
  • If you drive, transport inside Makkah and Madinah, so the car can stay parked
  • Ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah
  • Help with the visa application
  • Our team on the ground

Planning for a family from the UAE

With children or elderly parents, flying is usually easier. A family of four or five often fits in one quad room with an extra bed, or two rooms side by side. See family Umrah packages for room plans.

UAE school holidays and the weeks before Ramadan are busy times for Umrah. Book early if those are your dates.

Visas for UAE residents

The visa you need depends on your passport, your UAE residence and how you travel, and the rules change often. Tell us your passport and how you plan to travel, and we explain the options before you book.

What is included and what is not

Your written quote lists exactly what is in your package. These are the usual choices.

Included when you choose it

  • Hotels in Makkah and Madinah
  • Transport inside Saudi Arabia: from the airport, between Makkah and Madinah, and back
  • Ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah, if you want it
  • Help with the Umrah visa application
  • Our team on the ground in Makkah and Madinah
  • Flights from the UAE, if you ask us to include them

Not included unless your quote says so

  • Bus tickets, fuel and car insurance if you travel by road
  • Anything your written quote does not list
  • Meals your quote does not list
  • Travel insurance
  • Personal spending, laundry and a phone SIM
  • A Rawdah visit: it is booked on Nusuk and nobody can guarantee a slot

We don't issue visas and can't guarantee one: Saudi Arabia decides. We help you with the application and the bookings it needs.

What changes the price

There is no price on this page because the price depends on these choices. Your written quote shows the price for your dates, with the hotel names and the room plan, so you can compare it with other quotes.

What you chooseHow it changes the price
Your datesRamadan, December and school holidays cost more. Quieter months cost less.
Distance from the HaramHotels next to the gates cost more than hotels further out, where you walk longer or take a shuttle.
Room viewA room that looks onto the Kaaba or the Prophet's Mosque costs more than a city view in the same hotel.
Room sharingFour people in a quad room each pay less than two people in a double room.
MealsRoom only costs least. Breakfast, or breakfast and dinner, adds to the price.
TransportA private car or van costs more than a shared bus.
Nights in each cityMore nights cost more, and hotel prices in Makkah and Madinah are not the same.

Questions and answers

Do you run buses from Dubai to Makkah?

No. If you want to go by bus, book with a licensed bus operator and we arrange your hotels and transport in Saudi Arabia.

Can I drive from the UAE to Makkah?

Some UAE residents drive. The rules for drivers, cars and visas change, so check them for your visa and your car before you go. We can arrange your hotels and the transport inside the cities.

Which is cheaper, the bus or flying?

Bus fares are usually lower than flights, but the journey takes much longer. For a family, compare the total cost and the days lost on the road.

Do you have family packages from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah?

Yes. Tell us where you live and how you want to travel.

Can you book flights from the UAE?

Yes, if you ask us to include them. Or book your own and we arrange the rest.
