School holidays in December
Most schools in Pakistan, the UK, Canada and the USA close for a winter break from the middle or end of December until early January. Each school and board sets its own dates, so check yours before you choose flights.
The holiday weeks are the busiest. If you can travel in the first half of December, it is usually quieter and costs less.
The weather in Makkah and Madinah in December
December is one of the cooler months. Days in Makkah are usually warm and the nights are cooler. Madinah is cooler than Makkah, especially at night and early in the morning. Pack a light jacket or shawl for Madinah evenings and for the air conditioning inside the mosques.
Why December costs more
Many families travel at the same time, so hotels close to the Haram and flights cost more in the holiday weeks. Booking early gives you more hotels to choose from. Travelling in the first half of the month, or staying a little further from the Haram, keeps the price down.
10-day and 14-day December plans
10 days
- Days 1 to 5: Makkah. Perform Umrah, then prayers at Masjid al-Haram.
- Day 6: Private transport to Madinah.
- Days 6 to 9: Madinah and the Prophet's Mosque, with Ziyarat one morning.
- Day 10: Fly home from Madinah, or travel back to Jeddah.
14 days
- Days 1 to 7: Makkah, with Ziyarat in Makkah one morning.
- Day 8: Private transport to Madinah.
- Days 8 to 13: Madinah, at an easier pace.
- Day 14: Fly home.

As soon as you know your dates. The school holiday weeks fill first. If you have already booked flights, send us the times and we arrange the hotels and transport around them.

What changes the price
There is no price on this page because the price depends on these choices. Your written quote shows the price for your dates, with the hotel names and the room plan, so you can compare it with other quotes.

Confirm and pay
When you are happy, you confirm and pay a deposit by bank transfer. Our bank details are on the booking documents we send you. The balance is due before you travel.
We look after you there
Our team is in Makkah and Madinah while you are. If a room or a transfer is not right, message us and we deal with it.

Yes, for the weather and the school holidays. It is also busy, so book early and expect bigger crowds at the Haram in the holiday weeks.

December is one of the cooler months. Days are usually warm and the nights cooler. Madinah is cooler still.
When are the UK school holidays in December 2026?
Most UK schools break up around the third week of December and go back in early January. Dates vary by council and school, so check yours.
Can I go over Christmas and New Year from the UK, Canada or the USA?
